Pain Management

Pain Management

When an individual has pain, he / she naturally tends to protect their body, by restricting activity and seeking medical help. But over time, if the pain lasts, one may become trapped in a vicious cycle of muscle loss, avoidance, loss of normal function, and negative feelings.

Additional costs may include strained relationships, job loss, problems with depression and low self-esteem, less time with family, fewer valued activities, lower quality of life, and over time, more pain.

Pain management is an integral part of orthopaedic treatment. Dr. Mayur Dabhade is highly proficient in managing such patients by integrating recent advances in the above filed, which has resulted in several of his patients benefitting from the same.

Vissco Supplementation

Another treatment option is a procedure called viscosupplementation. If you have tried all other nonsurgical treatment methods and your pain continues to limit your activities, viscosupplementation may be an option.

Osteoarthritis of the knee happens when the cartilage in your knee joint breaks down, enabling the bones to rub together. The friction makes your knees hurt, become stiff and sometimes swell. Osteoarthritis of the knee happens when your knee joint cartilage wears out or is damaged. Articular cartilage is tough, rubbery tissue on the ends of your bones that lets you bend and move. Meniscal cartilage absorbs shock from pressure on your knee.

Chronic low back pain

Chronic low back pain resulting in severe unbearable pain radiating to one or both the legs along with tingling or numbness on conditions like lumbar canal stenosis, facetal joint arthropathy and mechanical and postural low back pain is non surgically managed by administration of transforaminal epidural injections with nerve blocks.

Heel pain is a common foot and ankle problem. Pain may occur underneath the heel or behind it. Heel pain can make it difficult to walk and participate in daily activities. You might experience pain, soreness or tenderness anywhere in the heel. You typically feel heel pain:

  • Behind the heel.
  • Beneath the heel.
  • Within the heel bone itself.

What are the risk factors for heel pain?

Anything that puts a lot of pressure and strain on your foot can cause heel pain. The way you walk (foot mechanics) and your foot's shape (foot structure) are also factors.

You may be more likely to develop heel pain if you:

  • Are overweight (have obesity).
  • Have foot and ankle arthritis, flat feet or high foot arches.
  • Run or jump a lot in sports or for exercise.
  • Spend a lot of time standing, especially on concrete floors.
  • Wear improperly fitted shoes without arch support and/or cushion.

Heel pain persisting for long time can result in inflammation of fascia or growth of extra bone (commonly known as spur)

For chronic conditions like this where surgical line of management may be advised to patient can be managed conservatively by Dr. Dabhade with the use of novel pain management technique.

Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, involves stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin slowly, then get worse.

The shoulder joint is enclosed in a capsule of connective tissue. Frozen shoulder occurs when this capsule thickens and tightens around the shoulder joint, restricting its movement.Having to keep a shoulder still for a long period increases the risk of developing frozen shoulder.

Long standing frozen shoulder cases may require surgical intervention to break the adhesions, however Dr. Mayur with his expertise can manage the condition with non-surgical release.

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a painful condition that occurs when tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm. The pain of tennis elbow occurs primarily where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to a bony bump on the outside of your elbow. Pain can also spread into your forearm and wrist.

This condition is not only seen in athletes but can affect housewives involved with repetitive activities like chopping, wringing wet clothes or people involved with typing activities.

Worsening of condition can result in difficulty in even holding light objects along with severe joint pain and stiffness.

Rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease, in which the body’s immune system attacks its own healthy cells, causing inflammation (painful swelling) in the affected parts of the body.

It mainly affects the joints, usually many joints at once. RA commonly affects joints in the hands, wrists and knees. The lining of the joint becomes inflamed, causing damage to joint tissue. This tissue damage can cause long-lasting or chronic pain, unsteadiness (lack of balance), and deformity.

While the patient may be advised multiple drugs to prevent the progression of diseases , Dr. Mayur aims to treat the condition with minimal and low dose of medication.

Congenital Deformities Like

Club foot (deformity in which an infant's foot is turned inward, often so severely that the bottom of the foot faces sideways or even upward)

knock knees or genu valgum (common lower leg abnormality that is usually seen in the toddler, preschool and early school age child. In genu valgum, the lower extremities turn inward, causing the appearance of the knees to be touching while the ankles remain apart)

bow knees (genu varum) is when the legs curve outward at the knees while the feet and ankles touch.

Above deformities of lower extremities are corrected by Dr. Mayur Dabhade by various methods like Ponseti serial casting, Tendoachilles tenotomy and other surgical release technique.
