Complex fractures are complicated breaks in bones which usually need care by a specialist team. They include open fractures which are fractures with wound complications, pelvic fractures breaks in the strong bony ring connecting the base of the spine to the hips and severe ankle fractures. Complex fractures are usually caused by sudden trauma from a sports injury, auto accident, hard falls from heights or brittle bones from aging.
